Excavator Stick Rebuild

A customer found us online who had to get two old and big Terex RH200 (now Caterpillar) excavator stick sections back into working condition. We’ve done plenty of refurbishing/rebuilding in our time on many different pieces of equipment including, but not limited to, cranes, forklifts, man lifts, breakers and more. So when we got this phone call we were excited and curious at the same time. We knew it was on a piece of mining equipment therefore it would be pretty big. But when we saw that 1st truck pull in with this behemoth of a piece of boom on the trailer we were a little caught off guard. Nevertheless, as we basically shut the yard down and prepared mercifully to handle this lift, we were excited to start.

We started off with the bushings. The customer wanted all 6 replaced. The lead time was too long and the parts were too expensive to go through the factory so we had a machine shop rebuild 4 new (2 steel and 2 brass) bushings for the ends. We ended up buying the center, self-aligning bushings from a factory-authorized dealer.

Next were the structural issues. Everything from cracks in the journal steel to replacing formed steel plate on the top. And finally a fresh new coat of paint. The customer specified “CAT Yellow”.

In the end the customer was satisfied with the finished product and we were happy to help them provide services to theirs.

If you have any questions or comments feel free. We’d love to hear back.

I don’t know why the thought of cleaning earth moving machinery is kind of contradictory to me. I hadn’t been aware of the necessity of how much dirt and debris could affect the equipment. These tips sound simple but also crucial to maintaining heavy equipment like bobcats.

Maintenance is imperative on all heavy equipment.
